While we were on camp in Dunedin we went to the Otago university Aquarium. Were Josie and Steve showed us around we got to touch and see all these different things such as star Fish, Sea Anemones, Crabs, Fish, Coral, Sea Slugs and and sea cucumbers. We also went in a submarine we went to the very bottom of the sea and saw lots of different creatures. But the most memorable moment was dissecting the Spiky Dog Shark. Crazy Steve decided that it would be funny to freak all of us out by biting the Sharks skin to show us how strong the skin was. It was good to try something different even though not everyone wanted to do that. We all had lots of fun and if we had the opportunity to go back we would!

Te Anau School Hangi
On the third of July Te Anau School had a hangi to celebrate the end of their Matariki topic. Over Term 2 we all did lots of art through out the classes. At the start of the term Room 12 was put in charge of digging the hangi. Over a few weeks we completed it. It was hard work. When the day came for our hangi it was cancelled but Redcliff restaurant kindly cooked our vegetables and Dale’s hangi team cooked the meat on BBQs. We also sang songs like at a traditional Matariki celebration.
We had some food once we sang our songs. Yum Yum. We had lots of different varieties of food like root vegetables and meat. We reckon the best one were the chops. Once we finished eating our parents looked through the classes. What a day. But it wouldn’t have been possible with out the parents, Dale’s team, the teachers, Redcliff, Kiwi Holiday Park for donating their place, Mr Rush and all the children.

Our Hangi
Three
weeks ago Room 12 began digging our school hangi for our school topic. Once our
hangi is dug we will use it for our school hangi feast on Friday the 28th of
June 2014. The school is preparing the food on Wednesday the 26th of June. We
light the fire at 4am in the morning. We will be singing some traditional Maori
songs. The parents can walk around the classes and see our Matariki projects
that we’ve been doing.
